Default Pictures of Plotsaver Working

The first two pictures are June 27th. The last are from yesterday July 15th.

The plotsaver has rosemary, mint and egg to deter deer from over browsing a plot before it gets established.

You set the height at about 30 inches, lower to deter fawns. I set mine a little low because I set it up during fawning. I am seeing mature deer in the middle of the plot, but the center is not getting foraged as much as the edges.

The way the field is going to turn out is the opposite of my intended layout. I wanted to create a 30 yard perimeter of corn with other forage in the center. Spring planting got too hectic and it never happened. Oh well, this is a destination plot and the deer have plenty of cover elsewhere. I'll plant some brassicas or winter wheat on the destroyed edges.

WOW!!!

That is enough proof for me!! I was debating on trying to create my own "home brew" of plot protection and after seeing your post will opt for the sure fire method to save my delicate fall planting!!

Thanks for posting!

The "home brew" seems to be working for me. I ran 25lb. fishing line twice all the way around the plot. I then tied plastic meijer bags every 10 foot or so all the way around. Then I soaked some cloth strips in a mixture of 3 eggs per gallon of water for a week and tied them every 5 feet around the plot. Almost 2 weeks in of the peas/soys sprouting and not a track a one in the plot. This is in an area of high deer density too. Very cheap and so far I am very impressed. I will be going around this evening and spray the strips of cloth with some cheap colgne that I picked up, because we have had a lot of rain the last week. Good luck.

There is no reason why your home brew should fail. I would do the egg mixture but throw in some rosemary and mint fragrance oils. That's what's in the plotsaver. They sell fragrance oils for candle and soapmaking.

Plot saver is working for me too. Steven, it looks to me like you have sweet corn there right? They usually don't take field corn down to the nub like that. If it works on sweet corn, it will become my new deity.

I am going to put some around my wife's sweet corn tomorrow because they are hammering it.

When I run out of their mix, I will try the home brew as well.

No, its regular RR dent corn. Free stuff from Pheasants Forever (Livingston County). It's on a pretty fertile field. I have soybeans within the corn. There is an incredibly high deer population and a fair amount of sanctuary here. I can afford to keep the plotsaver up till the corn matures because the deer have no lack of food around. A two acre field is way to little for the deer.

Like I mentioned earlier, I would have liked a perimeter of corn like Ed Spinn advocates.
Now I can plant the thin perimeter in fall attraction seedings. Either winter wheat, brassicas or annual clovers

Looking good! Thanks for sharing.

I had heard that not only plot saver, but several other fences on the market have been tested by the folks at the QDMA and most of them worked very effectively.

I spoil my deer too bad and just them have a free for all. It is like x-mas in summer.

Fishing line/plastic "meijer bags"/homebrew "plot saver", seems to work good for us "spoiled" SW MI deer!

August 16th update. The plotsaver worked like a charm.

Here's some unprotected corn:

Very nice looking plot. Looks like the plotsaver lived up to its expectations. I was finally able to get a good corn plot this year but still can't grow soys, plotsaver might be the ticket.

You can grow them, but the deer just mow them down, right? They get hammered here. The plotsaver here worked to save some of the beans (the soys are growing under the corn) and I'm hoping it will draw some of the surrounding turkeys and pheasants. The pheasants like the insects that hang around the beans.

I wanted to get the forage type beans this year, but never got around to it.
